Lessons learned at "Pathways to Bioscience Careers"

So what did I learn today after paying 10 dollars to listen to people in biosciences speak about their experiences?
  • There are NO jobs for me directly out of school with just a baccalaureate degree.
  • I might as well work for a contract laboratory for a year if I plan to go elsewhere or just need to gain experience.
  • Most people start out at entry level positions and work their way up the ladder over the years.
  • You really don't use all you learn in college in the disciplines of math, biology, physics, and chemistry in the workforce.
  • Getting a job in a big corporation is even more unlikely.
 My own realizations...
  • I need to be more passionate, ambitious, and assertive about what I want. Otherwise, I won't get it.
  • I need to work harder if I don't want to have to work 5-15+ years to get where I ideally want to be.
  • There are thousands of kids just like me out there, I need to make myself stand out from the crowd, be indispensable.
  • Make more friends and network with those who can provide assistance to me, assist me, and provide me with the inspiration to achieve what I could potentially be.
So GO CINDERELLA GO! I need to be FANCY....
