So I've always wanted to live in Korea for at least some amount of time after college to learn more about my heritage and have some freedom...So I spent a good chunk of what was left of my summer after microbiology and ceramics and working to apply to a this program. Because I applied to that program, I spent about once a week going to an English learning center on my campus at school and have made some Korean friends. Everyone always tells me that they'd prefer to live here than in Korea and I never really understood why because I always though Korea was "the place to be"....After making these Korean friends, I used the words "oppa (오빠)" and "unnie (언니)" for the first time and now have my first girl "dongseng (동생)".
Well, in between helping this oppa with his homework on Thursday in the library, we'd discuss random stuff at times. I learned a lot of negative aspects of Korean culture....
1.) Never turn down a drink, especially from an older person. You have to just take it.
2.) Don't go to 영등포, especially at night.
3.) Don't ever cry in front of anyone, you won't get any sympathy.
4.) Ignore it if you hear people talking smack about you.
5.) Don't trust anyone too much....Especially guys. Their intentions might not be good.
There were other things...I guess I wanted to save this somewhere where I might remember where I saved it because it might come in handy, if I go to Korea.
