Amazing girls I know that I'm lucky enough to call friends

Two girls that got me through the last few years, but that I got to know on a different level last semester. I honestly never thought I'd make friends that I would want to keep in college...I've almost become dependent on these girls to share my excitement, joy, worries, and just about anything with. I've shared more than with them than I've ever shared with anyone in my life (that excludes family). They have invested and entrusted in me what I have done in them. I hope to stay friends with these girls for a long time.

JDX.

I met JDX when I was a freshman, but it wasn't until our junior year (last year) that I really got to know her as my biochemistry lab partner. Her work ethic astounded me; the amount of effort she put into anything and everything no matter how insignificant it was amazing. She was kind to everyone and always did more than she was asked or expected to do. She was someone I decided would make me a better person and student. We had more of an academic relationship at that point, but nonetheless we were pretty close.

Then, this fall, we ended up seeing each other almost every day because we took two science courses together where we had the same labs and lectures. She went through a lot; she had a lot of responsibilities and she fulfilled all of them on top of school, which was already a pain in the butt. She was always so willing to share what she could, no matter how tired or hectic her life. JDX would give up her own personal time for the well-being of someone else. She would lack sleep, skip meals, and eliminated her social life to get where she is. She is more than dependable and is more than anyone could ask for in a friend.

One day she is going to be an amazing pharmacist that is going to make a difference. I know she'll take it beyond being a pharmacist as well. She'll probably conduct some amazing research, publish some books, advocate for underrepresented minority groups, mentor ambitious girls like herself, and still have time for her family and kids.

DYB.

Another amazing girl. She's been through so much in her life, yet, you would never know that anything ever was wrong because she doesn't let it get the best of her. I didn't even know until I hesitantly asked if I could know about her personal life, in which she openly was willing to share everything I wanted to know. She works multiple jobs, is active in extracurriculars, maintains a social life, and still goes to school. With all this skill in lifestyle balance, she's going to get so far as well. She's ambitious, knows what she wants and is going to do whatever it takes to get there. I can't wait to see where she ends up, whoever gets her (whether it's her employer or future husband) will never disappointed because her commitment to things is exceptional. I can see her running her own business someday and leaving her mark wherever she goes.

I met her through a mutual friend when I was a sophomore; I was shocked by her bubbly personality and it blew me away that someone could be as outgoing as her. I remember the first time I met her and how close she was to the mutual friend; it made me envious of what the two of them shared. The mutual friend and DYB had a gradual downfall, mostly because of the mutual friend and I saw the toll it took on DYB. I messaged her saying that I recognized her devotion to their friendship and saw her almost shed tears talking about the mutual friend when we were in our other friend's dorm room. I'd like to think that that was when we became closer friends.

Again, just like with JDX, it wasn't until this past year that we became close. Through our silly crushes and shared loneliness in never having had a boyfriend while all of our other friends did, we grew closer together. We were "concert virgins" (according to DYB) together to go see Jesse McCartney in 2008 and went to go see Maroon 5 together last fall. Funny thing, we didn't like their album before attending the concert and after the concert drowned ourselves in the pain of Adam Levine for the next few months. We love our pretty boys and a good song!

Now, I still don't know these girls that well, but we went through a lot last semester and grew together. I hope I can continue to get to know them and that I can take parts of them in me and grow to be a better person.
